This is an example of a "News" item.  A News item is a lot like a page.  It can have an image associated with it that will display on the side of the page content.  (Of course you can also add images to the body of the page, but the news item's image is displayed in the list of news items.)

Much like an event, news items can be placed anywhere in your site, but they will be aggregated into any smart folder that queries for them.  (See the information about Events.)
