Volunteer Spotlight- Brook Stanford

Governor Chris Gregoire has appointed Multifaith volunteer Brook Stanford to her Advisory Commission on HIV/AIDS. Brook will serve the remainder of an unexpired term and is designated as a Citizen Representative. The commission is comprised primarily of people in Research, treatment, and support of people living with HIV/AIDS.    Members meet once per month to assess the current status of the AIDS epidemic and make recommendations to the State Department of Health.

Brook is a Volunteer to Multifaith Works from Companis, a volunteer agency of Seattle First Baptist Church, and serves on Multifaith's Development Committee.

Brook is retired from a 35 year career in Television News, including 31 years at KOMO-TV, Channel 4. As the People Helper at KOMO, Brook raised more than $9 million to help viewers who were in need. He is a 27 year member of Seattle Men's Chorus, and serves on the Board of the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Brook has two sons, Erik, 43, and Greg, 39, and says the following:

"I was so pleased to be asked to join the Commission because HIV/AIDS has been such a part of my life. Having lived a healthy life with HIV nearly a quarter century, lost a partner and many dear friends to AIDS, I welcome this as an opportunity to make some small contribution toward an end to this epidemic."
