Volunteer Opportunities at Rosehedge

Volunteers play a vital role in our program.  It means the world to our residents when people come by to spend time with them, get a coffee together, or help with necessary tasks.  Their efforts truly make our houses into homes.   Many volunteers do more than one of the jobs below, as needed.

Resident & House Support

Volunteers in this position provide companionship and support to our residents. They may also engage in in-house or off-site activities, or help with serving meals and clean up. Some also perform household tasks such as vacuuming or recycling. We ask these volunteers to commit to about three hours a week for six months.

Requirements: Resident & House Support Volunteers need to be reliable, responsible, flexible, patient, and emotionally mature. Additionally, they need to be able to maintain professional boundaries and be willing to follow Rosehedge policies and procedures regarding resident care.

Maintenance Assistant

The role of the Maintenance Assistant is pivotal in aiding Rosehedge in its goal of providing the cost effective, quality care by eliminating the cost of service calls for minor repairs. In addition, regular maintenance ensures that the residents of Rosehedge continue to enjoy high quality housing.

Requirements: Interested candidates should have skills in one or more of the following areas: plumbing, painting, small appliance repair, carpentry, as well as a general aptitude in assessing emerging needs.

Gardening Volunteer

The Gardening Volunteer's role is important to maintaining an aesthetically appealing surrounding that makes Rosehedge feel more inviting and home-like. The gardens of Rosehedge have been a source of much pleasure to our residents. Volunteers in this capacity may do raking, weeding, pruning, sweeping, and planting.

Requirements: Knowledge of gardening is good, but is not a necessary requirement. A lot of maintenance of the grounds does not require extensive knowledge. Volunteers in this position can set their own schedules.

Organized outings include trips to parks, the zoo, movie theaters, concerts, and other special events.  Volunteer assistance enables staff to involve more residents.  Outings allow residents to be more active and to fully participate in community life.

Requirements: A valid Washington state driver's license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration. Some daytime availability is helpful.
