Community Living

Quality of life is maintained by promoting a sense of community and enabling residents to share in group decision-making and problem-solving--the only HIV/AIDS housing program of its kind in King County.  In order to facilitate community, each house has a live-in Resident Advisor.  Rosehedge/Multifaith requires all residents to participate in the upkeep of their house by doing chores, in attending weekly house meetings and bi-monthly all resident meetings, and in meeting with the Multifaith Works Housing Support Specialist at least once a month.  The weekly house meetings enable residents to participate in the governance of their house, to work through the day-to-day issues of communal living, and deal with interpersonal relations.  Although communal living can be challenging, residents do often learn better interpersonal and communication skills, increase sensitivity to the needs and concerns of others, better nutrition awareness and cooking skills, and better financial management skills in being required to submit their monthly rent payment (based on income) by the fifth day of each month.  Group meals, cooked monthly by CareTeam members, enhance the spirit of comraderie and unity of purpose.
